Our Story
For the past 41 years Charlie Staples has created delicious barbecue dishes with his special Signature Bar-B-Que Sauce. The sauce was originally created and used down south for 28 successful years in the barbecue business by an older woman and her late husband. The woman moved to Youngstown and sold the recipe in 1939 to Bill Robinson, who had owned the barbecue stand for 35 years prior to Charlie taking ownership in 1974. As agreed upon, the special Bar-B-Que sauce recipe has not been changed since 1911! Charlie Staples still proudly uses a recipe that is over 100 years old.
Upon entering the restaurant you’ll walk into a serene atmosphere that takes you way down to New Orleans and makes you feel like you’re in the French Quarters. It’s a family environment and great for groups- a place to relax, unwind, and enjoy companionship with mouth-watering food. Enjoy Charlie’s famous barbecue chicken, a slab of ribs, or pulled pork smothered in his delicious sauce. And then there’s Big Bertha…an overstuffed loaded baked potato that compliments any plate and lives up to its name! You can come in and dine, carry-out if you’re on-the-go, or sit outside on the rooftop patio in the warm summer weather.
